Milja"I did 11 weeks internship in St. Joseph hospital rotating in different wards. Working days were different in different wards, most of the time you could take a part on some procedures like wound cares, taking HIV test, cannulating and changing the catheters. As a student it was easy to get to see labors and surgical operations as well. Some nurses spoke better English than other but they were very welcoming.
The doctors spoke good English and explained a lot about patients and procedures, the person in charge of the students takes well in to account your wishes about where you want to work at. Everyone was very cooperative and nice towards us. St Joseph as an internship place is very good. The environment is pleasant and you get to see and do a lot if you are willing to learn I have real enjoyed my time with Tanzania volunteers and it’s hard to say anything bad, so I can’t really come up with any other improvements." Riikka"My placement was at Msamaria Centre for Street children. I enjoyed being there very much, the best thing was interacting with the children and playing with them even the language barrier wasn’t an obstacle when spending time there. We helped with cooking, washing dishes and teach the kids to write and read in English. I would definitely recommend Msamaria placement if you are volunteer, social worker intern and if you like children’s.
TVL hostel is real good, the house is clean, the food was good (vegetable souse was really good) everything went nice with the placement guiding and work tasks." [email protected] |
Elina"I was in two different placement, Msamaria Centre for Street Children and Mahabusu (juvenile jail). This is very good option for longer internship because you can get to know different places and get different experience. Me and my friends we were 7 weeks in Msamaria and 5 weeks in Mahabusu
The best thing in both places is, kids were eager to learn new things and they were so nice to volunteers Everything at the house was very organized on time, the house was clean food was fantastic." [email protected] |
Pennanen"I did my internship at Majengo Health Center, I worked at antenatal care, family planning, vaccination clinic and at the labor ward. The busiest department from this center is the labour ward.
You can get to handle a delivery under a supervision of the nurses around, Working at Majengo Health Center is very different from Finland and a bit of amazing experience. I don’t have any complaints about the TVL program fee, at first I thought it was quite expensive but when I get to live at TVL House I could feel were my money went." [email protected] |
Malin Bengtsson"We have been working at a school called Ebenezer Primary School just 20 minutes’ drive from the TVL house. Our working days was between 8am -1 pm which gives you a lot of time to explore Moshi after that. If there is many volunteers at the house doing different types of works join them and enjoy your stay.
This whole experience has been amazing in so many ways, this is so far away from our society back home in Sweden but it has also showed us about how small things can be a big change for so many people Tanzania is absolutely a country that will meet you with big smile and the phrase ‘Mambo poa’ and other friendly greeting will warm you up. About safari and shot trips , very good arrangement by TVL team, Good guide and very good food at the house" |

Moran"My experience at TVL has been absolutely amazing but far different from the others I was here for three months.
I loved my time and am not ready to leave. I loved staying at TVL, the house is very homey and it has been lovely getting to know everyone in the house. I volunteered at RAU DAY CARE and the experience there was wonderfully. Everyone is so kind, warm and cheerful. At the end of my trip I went on safari which TVL organized and I highly recommend it. You will see a different side of Tanzania and Africa in general." [email protected] |
