Lake Manyara
SPECIAL FEATURES OF LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK:
Lake Manyara National Park (330 km² or 127 miles2) is the third smallest park in Tanzania. The park gets its name from salt water lake inside the park. Lake Manyara National Park offers varied ecosystems, breathtaking views and incredible bird life. Even though this park is smaller than the most of Tanzania’s national parks it’s worth a visit because it is said to have the most beautiful scenery in the whole country. In addition, it is one of the World Heritage Sites listed by UNESCO.
The most distinct feature of the park is the largest groundwater forest in all of East Africa. This causes the park to have very unique natural environments. Zebras, wildebeests, buffalos and giraffes can be seen near the lake and impalas and waterbuck in the forests. The park is also famous for its tree climbing lions. In addition to the lions, the national park is also home to the largest concentration of baboons anywhere in the world.
There are also numerous species of water birds living near Lake Manyara. Many species of flamingos, pelicans, goose, ducks, spoonbills, ibis, fish eagles and other birds can easily been seen in the park. A good feature of this park is that it is not over crowded like some of the other national parks, so you will have more privacy while on safari. There is also a versatile road network in the park.
