Faraja Diaconic Center
Available for teacher exchange, voluntary work and internship
Faraja Diaconic Center is located in village of Sanya Juu about 40 minutes drive from Moshi. In the center they have a boarding school for physically handicapped children and a training center for deacons. Center is run by German Gabriele Lehrke Neidhardt and her husband. In the boarding school there are about 90 kids aged between 7 and 15. They are all physically disabled in different ways.
All the kids go to school every day and they study according to their skills and ability. In addition to normal classes the kids attend to physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Every class has also computer class and library hour 2 to 3 times in a week.
Faraja is welcoming students from different fields. They are offering internship opportunities for example to occupational therapists, physiotherapists and nurses. The minimum time for interns is 4 to 6 weeks. Working language is English but basic knowledge of Swahili would be very beneficial.
Tasks for interns:
Because Faraja Center is situated so far away from TVL house it is not possible to travel there daily. Thatswhy the interns who work in Faraja will stay in the center during the weekdays and in TVL-house during the weekends. Since the kids are also staying in the center it is possible to work in many shifts.
Children are having holiday on June and on December, and during the holidays it is not possible to work there.

- Teaching basic computer skills
- Helping in library in reading, playing games and doing different handicrafts
- Working together with the physiotherapist or occupational therapist
- Working together with the nurse of the center
- Playing with the children outside the school hours Helping in the dormitory
- Different free time activities T
- eaching basic English for deacon students, afternoon groups and to local workers of the center
- Teaching basic computer skills for these same groups
