Veera Lehtonen, Finland – Majengo Health Center

"In Majengo Health Center you will get in the middle of the local health care in a very basic level. In the Health Center you will see very well the local life and culture. Workers are very friendly but they need some time to get encouraged to have any deeper conversation. Working days are quite light physically. You need to be very active in this placement. There are lots of things to do and learn but you have to actively ask and look for them. The biggest surprise was the slow working rythm and the total absence of timetables. There are also huge differences in facing the patience compared to Finland. The best thing in the placement was the happy and good atmosphere. Majengo is also very clean placement. There are also many local nurse students doing their internship there and it’s definitely worth of getting to know them. They speak much better English and from them you can get a young person’s view to the life and working in Tanzania."
