WEEKEND CAMPING IN MASAI VILLAGE
The trip begins on Saturday morning. We start to drive to the masai village. The village is situated 20 kilometers west from Arusha and it is called Ilkurot. Driving takes about 3 hours. Even the driving itself is an experience because you will see amazing sceneries and many Tanzanian villages with their inhabitants.
When you first arrive to the village the masai men will welcome you by singing and dancing. After that you will visit in women hut where you can see the traditional ornaments that they make from beads. After that you will walk with the guide to the boma nearby. On the way the guide will tell you about the plants and animals that you will see there and also about the traditional lifestyle of masai tribe. In the boma you will meet the village leader, the eldest of the boma. He will tell you about his life and his ten wifes and masai traditions.
After that you will eat lunch and then we will go to the masai market. Driving there takes about 40 minutes. On the market they sell everything from clothes, food, jewelleries and shoes to spices, fruits, cows and goats. From the market we drive back to the village where the tents are already set up.
In the village we will see how the masai men prepare a goat which they have slotted earlier and we can also taste it. After that you can wear traditional masai clothes and jewelleries and dance together with the masai. In the evening we will cook together by the camp fire under the amazing starry sky. The tents are set up right next to the masai bomas . You will see cows, goats and kids running around everywhere. You will also see masai men and women doing there everyday duties around you. When you start to feel tired you can go to your tent to sleep. Masai warriors will stay up all night by the camp fire for your safety.
In the morning you will wake up when sun gets up, rooster is crowing, cows are mooing and goats are baaing. We will make aromatic coffee on the camp fire and prepare a plentiful breakfast. After the breakfast we will start hiking to the Ngorora hill. Hiking will take about 3 hours. From the top you will see breathtaking sceneries. After the hiking we will prepare a simple lunch, pack our things and then we start our journey back home.
