LUDAO DAY CARE
Ludao Daycare was first started in November 1998. In the beginning there were only few kids but as the parents got to know the place and the good reputation of the day care spread more and more kids have been registered every year. Year 2008 was the record and the day care registered altogether 98 kids. 2009 they have registered 67.
Ludao Daycare has 3 teachers who all have Montessori teacher training. In addition to that there is only a cleaner and a watchman working in the daycare.
Daycare is open from Monday to Friday. The kids arrive around 8 o’clock in the morning and around 4 pm the parents pick them home. The purpose is to help the working mothers so that they can leave their kids to day care while they go to work. The age of the kids vary from 2 up to primary school age.
In the daycare the kids are divided to 3 different classes according to their age and skills. There is baby class for the youngest ones and also all the new-comers start it from this class. Apple class is in the middle and Banana class prepares the 5 to 7 years old kids to the primary school.
All the kids get porridge around 10 and lunch around midday. After the lunch from 2 pm to 4 pm all the kids take a nap. The young ones in the baby class may also sleep earlier. Around 4pm the kids are waking up and waiting for their parents to come to pick them.
During the day the kids are playing, singing, learning to write and read and count, learning alphabets, numbers, colors, greetings, weekdays, months and so on. The day care is lacking toys for the small kids under 5 years. They are wishing if people who come there could bring some old kids toys there as donation but of course this is not a condition for coming. The teachers are also very eager to learn new games and plays that can be played with the kids and new songs to be sang with the kids. They only know the traditional songs and games from Tanzania and they would be very happy to get some fresh ideas from abroad.
Ludao Daycare would make a very good internship placement for students in social or care take sectors and a volunteer placement for everybody who is interested to be with children. You can easily share your new ideas and knowledge in this placement. You can also choose according to your education or interest in which class you want to work. The working hours will be from 8 am to 2 pm. Those who want can take the local lunch at the placement with the kids.
